  9. The information in this article applies to:

  11.  - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  12.  - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

  15. When you install Windows NT over earlier versions of Windows 3.0 or
  16. 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups, some information is not migrated into
  17. the Windows NT environment because the migration is not compatible or
  18. could potentially cause problems.
  19.  
  20. The following information is not migrated from Windows 3.0 and 3.1
  21. into the Windows NT environment:
  22.  
  23.  - [Ports], [Devices], and [PrinterPorts] sections of WIN.INI. These
  24.    may actually be migrated during the first stage of migration, but
  25.    Windows NT ignores them.
  26.  
  27.  - Persistent shares and users from Windows for Workgroups.
  28.  
  29.  - Per user profiles maintained by WINLOGIN.
  30.  
  31.  - Default domain and user ID from Windows for Workgroups or the
  32.    LANMAN.INI file.
  33.  
  34.  - Any changes made to the Main, Startup, Games, and Accessories
  35.    groups in Windows 3.0 and 3.1.
  36.  
  37.  - MS-DOS drive letters. Drive letters should be configured using
  38.    Windows NT Disk Administrator.
  39.  
  40.  - The Program Manager Auto Arrange, Minimize on Run, and Save
  41.    Settings on Exit options from PROGMAN.INI are not migrated
  42.    because the Windows NT Program Manager stores these in the
  43.    Registry as REG_DWORD instead of as text strings.
  44.  
  45.  - Font information for character mode command windows.
  46.  
  47.  - The Startup Group is not migrated, it must be recreated.
  48.
